If you're a landlord, the answer is yes, every 12 months. Here's what's actually involved.
A Gas Safety Certificate, often called a CP12, is a record that every gas appliance, flue and pipework in a property has been checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer and found safe to use. Landlords are legally required to have one carried out every 12 months, with a valid certificate in place before a new tenancy starts.
The check itself usually takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on how many appliances there are, and we issue the certificate the same visit wherever possible. If you manage more than one rental property, it's worth booking renewals ahead of the deadline rather than after the old certificate has already lapsed.
Homeowners aren't legally required to have one, but it's a sensible check to have done periodically, especially on an older system.
